Quality Assurance & Operations Specialist - Mount Holly, NJ
Job SummaryThe Quality Assurance specialist is responsible for the completion of quality checks, verifications, and ensure product parameters are being meant on the production floor. This position will offer support to the plant manager in making quality and production decisions, investigating non-conforming products, and completing monitoring activities in a safe fashion. This position reports to the Plant Manager. Responsibilities:- Perform preoperational inspections on equipment and utensils
- Complete post maintenance inspection of area to ensure processing equipment is free from foreign materials and loose articles
- Responsible for completing daily quality checks before, during, and after packaging runs o Oversee product is being packaged to meet expectations
- Oversight of sample requirements
- Maintain sample retention system
- Collect product samples for required assays
- Collect and prepare appropriate samples for random sampling program
- Monitor products for quality parameters
- Communicate to quality manager and production when product falls out of specification, document any noticeable discrepancy, take corrective actions to eliminate the issue
- Participate in equipment validation procedures for high-risk products
- Participate in food safety meetings led by the facility quality manager
- Ensure site specific work instructions, sop's, and mpcs are being followed
- Spot check finished goods to verify product meets specifications
- Assist with Pest Control Program
- Participate in GMP plant inspections per divisional requirements
- Verify quality and product safety checks are properly completed to meet procedural requirements such as magnet checks, etc.,
- Perform job functional quality safety checks on production employees assigned by Plant Manager
- Assist with monitoring activities such as uniformity studies, scale checks, and traceability
- Verify high risk activities are being completed before the shipment of product
- Maintain equipment by sterilizing (often using an autoclave), and calibrating laboratory instruments to ensure they are in working order
- Managing the foundational tasks of a lab, including sample preparation, equipment maintenance, and data recording.
- Basic understanding of microbial axenic nature and counting procedure.
- Verify production batch card for accuracy, establish priorities, monitor progress, and revise schedules to meet deadlines.
- Monitor workflow, identify bottlenecks, implement cost reductions, and improve processes for efficiency.
- Enforce production standards, monitor product quality, and ensure adherence to specifications.
- Implement and enforce safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, arrange repairs, and evaluate new techniques.
- Maintain accurate records, generate reports, and communicate with plant manager.
Key Skills & Qualifications- Education: Prefer an associate or bachelor's degree in a science-related field
- Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with specific leadership or supervisory experience
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., SAP, Sage300), generate and file batch receipts, maintain batch yield records, update BOMs and create new finished product numbers when required,
- Technical Aptitude: Strong mechanical skills and the ability to interpret technical documents, such as SOP, and production schedules
- Digital Literacy: Proficiency in basic computer tasks for data entry and monitoring production metrics and MS Office (especially Excel).
- Operations Specialist: Focuses on workflow optimization, solving complex issues, and managing systems to keep the facility running smoothly
- Hard Skills: Proficiency in handling label printing machine, Complete various audits and projects such as BOM audit, maintain label mastery and registration certificate binder, update product labels as product registrations complete, create label drafts in CQL Pro for registration process in required languages (Spanish, Arabic, English and Portuguese), Proofread Spanish labels
- Key Soft Skills: Strong leadership, effective verbal/written communication for reporting findings, complex problem-solving, and the ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environments.
Working Conditions:- Employees in this position will carry out many of their functions in a manufacturing facility which requires tolerance to hot/cold temperatures. The environment may consist of numerous raw ingredients such as bulk and bagged animal feed ingredients on the production floor, in offices, and in conference rooms.
Physical Requirements:- Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, climb, and kneel
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Occasionally required to push, pull, move, or lift objects up to 50 lbs.
